Basic tactical medicine

The Crux Initiative’s "Basic Tactical Medicine" course is a practical 4 hour program based on Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) principles, designed to equip you with essential life-saving skills for managing medical emergencies in high-risk environments. You’ll learn to assess and prioritize injuries, control life-threatening bleeding with techniques like tourniquet application and hemostatic agents, and safely move and extricate casualties—ideal for law enforcement officers, first responders, security professionals, outdoor enthusiasts, or civilians seeking to enhance their emergency preparedness. Through hands-on practice in realistic scenarios, you’ll cover critical topics such as airway management, hypothermia prevention, and maintaining trauma-specific first aid kits, gaining the confidence to respond effectively in challenging situations.

You’ll also develop specific skills to address a range of medical crises, including breathing management with chest seals (both manufactured and improvised) for conditions like pneumothorax, and circulation management using pressure bandages to control bleeding. The course includes training on recognizing the stages and symptoms of blood loss—such as changes in mental state, pulse, blood pressure, and respiratory rate—and understanding how to prevent further harm, ensuring you’re prepared to act decisively even with limited resources. These hands-on techniques, combined with guidance on evaluating and maintaining quality Individual First Aid Kits (IFAKs), empower you to handle complex trauma situations with precision and care.

This course builds on standard first aid, offering practical, real-world strategies to save lives, delivered by our experienced, certified instructors committed to your skill development. You’ll leave with improved readiness for emergencies, faster response capabilities, and the knowledge to make a difference in critical moments—making it a valuable opportunity for anyone looking to strengthen their ability to handle medical crises. No prior medical training is required, but basic first aid knowledge is recommended; our interactive training combines lectures, visual aids, and practice, adhering to TCCC standards to ensure you gain actionable skills for personal and professional use.
